Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) lost the Republican primary for South Carolina governor, finishing fifth.
Mace, who previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives, was considered a strong contender but faced challenges during the campaign, including a lack of support from former President Donald Trump and negative advertising from opponents.
Mace received only 12% of the vote, failing to advance to the runoff, which will feature South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and Attorney General Alan Wilson.
Mace's loss raises questions about her political future and the impact of Trump's endorsement on GOP candidates.
