Terms of Service
Last updated: June 3, 2026
Acceptance
These Terms govern your use of The Middle Ground, operated by Connor O’Neillas a sole proprietor during the beta period ("we", "us"). By accessing the site, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
Eligibility and accounts
The site is not directed to children under 13, and you may not create an account if you are under 13. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for activity that occurs under your account.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- post or submit content that is illegal, defamatory, harassing, threatening, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes the intellectual-property or privacy rights of others;
- impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation;
- use the site to send spam, automated mass requests, or to scrape data beyond what is permitted by our published API or robots.txt;
- attempt to interfere with the operation of the site, including by probing, scanning, or testing the vulnerability of any system without our written consent;
- use the site in a way that violates any applicable law or regulation.
We may remove content that violates these rules and may suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly do so.
User-generated content
You retain ownership of the comments, votes, and other content you submit. By submitting content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, and distribute that content on the site for the purpose of operating and improving the service. You represent that you have the rights necessary to grant this license.
We do not pre-screen user content. We may review reported content and remove or hide it at our discretion. Removal does not waive any other right or remedy we may have.
Reporting and moderation
If you believe a comment or other piece of user-generated content violates these Terms or any law, use the "Report" control on the comment. For urgent matters or content that may involve illegal activity, contact coneill1331@gmail.com. We aim to acknowledge reports within 72 hours during the beta period.
AI-generated content
Topic summaries, bias classifications, figure ratings, position extractions, and action consistency judgements are produced by large language models. They may contain factual errors, misclassifications, or omissions. Each AI-generated section is labeled with an "AI-generated" badge that exposes a "Report inaccuracy" link. You should not rely on this content as the sole basis for any consequential decision.
News sources and attribution
The site aggregates and summarizes coverage from third-party outlets via NewsAPI, public RSS feeds, OpenSecrets, OpenFEC, and Congress.gov. All trademarks and source-article rights remain with their respective owners. Source articles are linked directly so you can read them in full at the publisher.
No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms is limited to US$50.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the site at any time, with or without notice, for any reason including violation of these Terms. You may stop using the site at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including content license, disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law — will survive.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The exclusive venue for any dispute is the state or federal courts located in that jurisdiction.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted on the site. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
